Mention energy conservation measures for domestic and commercial sectors?

Friends, today in this article we will learn  about energy conservation in the domestic sector.  I am going to give information about all this in a very good way. So let’s start.

Conservation of energy in the domestic sector

About 30% of the country’s total energy is used in the domestic sector. If energy is conserved in the domestic sector, a lot of energy can be saved.

Excess energy can be conserved by some simple measures in the domestic sector. Below are some measures which can save both money and energy. Along with this, natural resources can also be preserved.

Lighting

  1. Switch off the power when not in use.
  2. Work in sunlight during the day. Use light curtains and keep the color of the walls light. By doing this, the room can be illuminated appropriately with low wattage optical devices.
  3. The dust from bulbs and tube lights should be kept cleaned so that their brightness can be maintained.
  4. By using CFL in place of a normal 100 watt bulb, energy can be saved up to 80%. It lasts longer (8 times) than a normal bulb.
  5. Use electronic choke instead of traditional copper choke.

Fans

  1. Use electronic regulators instead of old regulators for ceiling fans.
  2. If the height is high, use exhaust fan instead of ceiling fan.
  3. The fan blades should be cleaned regularly and lubricated and oiled from time to time.

Electronic Iron

  1. Select an iron box with automatic temperature cut off. 1
  2. Use the appropriate regulator position for ironing.
  3. Do not sprinkle excess water on clothes while ironing.
  4. Do not iron wet clothes.

Mixer, Microwave & Electric / Gas Stove

  1. Do not grind dry things too much in mixer and grinder. They take more time to grind than wet (liquid) things.
  2. Microwaves consume 50% less energy than conventional electric/gas stoves.
  3. Do not over bake food items.
  4. If you bake bread or pastries, there is no need to preheat the oven.
  5. Do not open the oven door repeatedly to check the food as the temperature drops by 25°C each time the door is opened.
  6. Switch off the electric stove a few minutes before the scheduled cooking time.
  7. Use flat-bottomed pans because these remain in complete contact with the coil.
  8. While cooking on a gas burner, keep the flame medium, this conserves a lot of LPG.
  9. If a blue flame is coming out then it means your gas is working efficiently.
  10. A yellow flame indicates that your burner needs cleaning.
  11. Mostly use pressure cooker.
  12. When cooking, cover the food and keep it warm.
  13. Heat the food taken out from refrigerator only when it reaches room temperature.
  14. We should become a part of national interest by conserving precious energy by using solar cooker for cooking and solar water heater instead of geyser for heating water. If we use geyser, then use it for a short time. For this, pay special attention to the temperature setting of thermostat and timer.

Electronic devices, computers

  1. Do not keep TV, music system, tape recorder, computer etc. in standby mode. Keeping a TV in standby mode consumes 70 units of electricity in a year.
  2. If you want to keep the computer on and the monitor is not being used, turn off the monitor because that single device uses more than half of the system’s power.
  3. Keep the chargers of mobile, laptop, digital camera etc. unplugged, otherwise if left plugged in they keep drawing power and get damaged soon.
  4. Screen savers save the computer’s screen, not the energy. Additional energy can be saved by shutting down the computer when not in use.

Refrigerator

(ⅰ) Defrost the refrigerator and freezer regularly. Doing this can increase the amount of energy required to keep the motor running.

(ⅱ) There should be sufficient space between the wall and the refrigerator to allow air to circulate easily around the refrigerator.

(iⅰi) Do not keep the fridge or freezer too cold.

(iv) Make sure that your refrigerator door seal is airtight.

(v) – Keep the items to be kept in the refrigerator covered. Without covering the food, moisture escapes and the compressor has to work harder.

(vi) Do not open the refrigerator door repeatedly.

(vii) Do not leave the refrigerator door open for long periods of time.

(viii) Do not put very hot food items directly into the refrigerator.

(ⅰx) Always keep the freezer full. This makes the refrigerator work efficiently and saves electricity.

(x) Dust accumulated on the cooling coil behind the refrigerator reduces its efficiency due to which the meter has to work a lot more. This increases the electricity cost. 25% of the annual electricity consumption in every house is consumed by the refrigerator.

Washing Machine

  1. Use appropriate amount of water.
  2. Use the timer feature to save energy.
  3. Use appropriate amount of detergent.
  4. Use hot water only for heavily soiled clothes.
  5. Dry clothes in the sun instead of using an electronic dryer.

Energy conservation in the commercial sector

30% energy can be saved by using ISI marked electrical appliances. The following practical techniques should be followed for energy conservation in commercial sector-

  1. Do not use unnecessary electricity.
  2. Using appropriately sized wires and cables reduces losses in electrical wiring.
  3. Keep lamps and bulbs free from dust.
  4. Switch off the voltage stabilizer when in use.
  5. Use CFL instead of bulb.
  6. Electronic regulators should be used in fans.
  7. Turn off office equipment when not in use.
