Describe in detail the energy conservation in lighting system?

Friends, today in this article we will learn  about energy conservation in the publishing system.  I am going to give information about all this in a very good way. So let’s start.

Energy Conservation in Lighting Systems

30% to 40% of the energy is used for lighting system. This system is used in domestic and public areas. Hence, it is necessary to conserve energy.

Installation of light sources is necessary for energy conservation in the lighting system. Energy is saved by using light sources of appropriate capacity.

At present, light sources with low weight are used in the lighting system. These light sources are selected as per the requirement of illumination. The value of illumination depends on the area to be illuminated.

Energy conservation in lighting system can be explained through the following points-

Replacement of light sources

Modernization of metro and railway stations was started in the year 1990. Under this development, the lighting system was replaced to make it more effective. These are as follows-

compact fluorescent lamp

The size of CFL is smaller than the normal light source (traditional) while the intensity of light emitted by it is maximum. The energy consumption by CFL is reduced by 1/4 to 1/3.

The typical efficiency of a CFL is equivalent to that of 9 conventional light sources.

LED Lights

LED light source is a solid state lamp. Its full name is Light Emitting Diode. The use of LED light source started in the year 2010. It is being used rapidly at the industrial level. LED light source is a developed form of CFL light source. It is a more efficient lighting system than CFL. Its life (2-5 years) is longer than that of CFL.

This is a cost effective system for road lighting. It produces more effective light at a minimum cost. Maintenance of LED light sources is easy. The diodes present in it are maintainable but in case of high maintenance cost, they are replaced.

Carbon emissions can be reduced through LEDs and they can also be used in public systems.

Neon Lamp

This light works on the principle of electron emission. It provides illumination with less energy. Neon lamp is small in size and less expensive compared to other lamps.

Principle- According to this, light is produced as a result of emission of electrons from the cathode plate present in the neon lamp. The intensity of light depends on the electric stress of the cathode.

Construction and Working- In this two electrodes are placed in a sealed soft glass at a minimum distance. Neon coating is done on these electrodes while the atmospheric pressure on the soft glass is 8 torr (1 torr = 133.22 Pascal).

When an electrode gets heated, electrons start getting emitted. A higher voltage is required to increase the value of electrical stress of the electrodes. This voltage depends on the distance between the electrodes.

The value of electric field stress is high near the cathode due to which maximum speed is achieved by the ions.

When AC supply is given between the electrodes, the polarity of the electrodes changes from (+ve) to (-ve) sequentially.

Due to this type of polarity change, light starts to occur. The operation of neon lamp is useful for high voltage and lowest current.

Advantages- Its main advantages are as follows-

(i) It produces light with minimum reaction time.

(ii) Its structure is simple.

(iii) Its operating range is large.

(iv) Energy consumption is reduced by this.

(v) It is low in cost.

Disadvantages – The following are the main disadvantages of neon lamp-

(i) The amount of light emitted is less than the input supply.

(ii) The range of spectrum of colours in neon lamps is small.

Applications- Its applications are as follows-

(i) It is used as an indicator source.

(ii) It is used as a candle flame.
